Hey, I just applied to work at an Apple store in Seattle and wondered from any of you who actually have a job at one to give me some advice! Any advice would be nice as I would love to work at the place where it all happens...well, some of it, at least. Thanks all!

I know there are a few on here, but generally corporations and companies like Apple frown on members of their staff posting about company buisness on website forums and chat boards.

Good luck with the job, and if you get it, we hope to see your continued posting on Macrumors!! :D

Yes, quit MacRumors immediately. I lost my job there because I talked about my PowerBook here.

They're just corporate bastards like everyone else... I love their products, but they WILL fire you.

How did they know it was you anyway?

I went to MacRumors on my break. My freaking 30 minute break! So their video surveillance was enough to evict me.

I admit I was rather naive, but it still seems wrong to me. I had some of the best sales numbers in the store.

They have video surveillance cameras in Apple Stores? I never noticed.

I love to go in the Apple stores, and I hate to talk to people that don't know what they are doing. Get documented, may be not one of the Mac Geniuses, but be the best, to the most extent of your effort. Get the basics on how to persuade a walk in to get a Mac. Know what to say. Being a former windows user, it took me a year to make my decision, since the Apple store employees did not know what to say.

Cheers ;)

Didn't you know? Every Mac has screen capability to record video with no external video recorder. So evey Mac in the store has it's eyes on you and when you go on a computer the internal video recorder inside the screen monitors where you go by recording it via video.

This is what Apple doesn't want us to know! I exposed the truth! Hopefully tomorrow I won't be on the news that I died because of a MYSTERIOUS out of nowhere heart attack. :p

Employees also monitor the iSite cameras in the Mall of america store.. I was in the "back room" once to help carry out my friends Powermac and Monitor. I don't think I was supposed to be back there, but I was anyway

its just like any other job in the mall but you get to hang around Macs all day. Its kinda low paying as well. My friend got a job there for the winter break and he said it was not worth his time (!?) He did not like it as they push iPod sales and sales are what count in the store. He even told me the Mac Genius position is not very good. Anyone can do it as long as they get some training.

I'd say try it out and have fun but don't make a career out of it.

that's interesting my friend said the same thing. Some kid working the break was talking about his iBook on a forum while he was well "working" and they told him it was his last day. i guess they are tight on this stuff huh.

Wow, I had no idea how strict they were about rumor forums. Well, I guess I'll try to get my fill until my interview. I was curious, though, because someone said that the pay isn't the good. Would anyone happen to know the wages or have an idea?

Starting is like $9... range is anywhere from 8-12$...

This website (http://www.ifoapplestore.com/) has enough information about the Apple Stores, getting hired, etc. to make you sick. Have fun!

its $9 in my area but that was an informative site:

Apple store employees receive a fixed, hourly pay--no commissions. Like many other retailers, Apple's pay scales taken into account the location of the store, the area's cost-of-living and other factors. In Apple's case, it has established four pay rate categories, based on the size of metro market size where the store is located. Within each category there are pay scale ranges for each of the job positions. Each pay range consists of a mid-rate, a +20% top rate, and a -20% low rate. The top pay rates for Mac Specialist I/II, Keyholder and Inventory Control Specialist are just a few dollars more than minimum wage, while those for Mac Genius (various levels) and assistant manager max out around 5-6 times the minimum wage., and the pay rate isn't much higher than minimum wage.
