Here's the premise:

iPhone idling, screen off, locked. All of a sudden a new text comes in. Only one.
The sound msg goes off; cuts halfway and then repeats with a new one.

There is no unread messages. Reminder is disabled. WHAT THE HELL?! :( How is this fixed?!

What version if iPhone do you have?
What version of iOS is installed on the iPhone?
Was the installation of iOS an upgrade or clean install?
Have you rebooted the iPhone?
Have your tried changing the message to see if the problem persists?

Mine does it too, but it's a legitimate alert. I've only noticed it with push notifications though, not messages or emails.

Clean install? But it came as a clean install, it's brand new. An iphone 4 from sprint.

Damn. Guess I need to do a complete backup.

If you do a complete backup and then restore and use the backup again youll get the same problem. You need to set up iphone as NEW

ohhh I am not going to look and see where I found it but it was a setting that had to be changed, they bog me down trying to remember if it was sounds or restrictions, something there is a setting that should fix that. No help i know unless you look at all of the settings.

If you are referring to IOS 5, please check the following:

1. Go to Settings--->Notifications--->Messages
2. Scroll down to "Repeat Alert" on the bottom
3. Change to "Never"

You now have choices of (1, 2, 3, 5, 10x times)!

Let me know if this helps!

Hmmm...but I want it to repeat....just not right away. I want it to repeat if I fail to check the message.

Same issue, happens once in a while. first alert starts and gets garbled then immediately repeats. Also on sprint.

Mine seems to be affected by imessage phones texting me. Like imessage and SMS getting the same message same time therefor doubling up on alerts.

I only get it double from my wife and dad. Who both have new iphones with imessage...thoughts?

Mine is happening from standard SMS messages.

I also setup my phone as a new phone.

Restarted phone, problem went away
now out of no where it came back
annoying as hell.
:( sigh glitches
and with new update coming out... it'd suck because it may fix it but push back the jailbreak. >_<

There is a fix posted for this issue where you do not need to turn off vibrate or turn off view in lock screen. Go to the following link to read it. http://iostricks.com/double-text-message-ringtone-fix-iphone-4s-and-iphone-4-131
