in action, as they showed the MTV/Xbox 360-introduction party in advance. Big screens and the white/green new Xbox presented like an art object with an interview of the main actor/hobbit of the film "lord of the rings".

dunno what the actual powerpc chip is desgined after in the xbox but I doubt its the same as the G5 line of chips.
Also I doubt MS gonna let you install OSX onto the xbox 360.

We do know what it is, and it is very different from the G5 line of chips. It's the same as the PowerPC core in the PS3 only there are three of them (it must be- thats the ONLY IBM chip that runs at 3 GHz and up).

MS might not let you install OS X, but hey, they didn't let you install Linux either.

I'd bet the XBox can be hacked to run OS X, *HOWEVER*, if you read your user agreement for OS X when you install, you'd realize that you are breaking the agreement by installing it on a non-Apple computer.

yeah I don't mind eithe rif it gets hacked to run OSX or linux. But I would like to see a powerpc version of windows xp or 2k3 instead.

It won't be able to run OSX. Apple puts a special chip on their Motherboards that OSX detects before it installs. The xbox won't have this.

I don't think this is true. It hasn't been true since the old MacOS days. Macs don't have ROM chips anymore.

Otherwise, I could not have installed Mac OS X on my PC without a ROM chip.

I highly doubt that, your Mac has a 603e processor and 96 MB of RAM. No OS X = no QT7 = no H.264.

Microsoft has a way of making crap seem like it's nice. That's all this is. PS3 will blow it out of the water.

That was absolutely horrid.

No specs at all. No solid information at all. The only things they showed us was the XBox 360 case and name, then hyped about it with people jumping up and down screaming "OMG IT'S TEH UBER!".

The games they showed never showed more than two full seconds of gameplay before switching camera angles. No clue how any of the games play.

Some of the games had weaker graphics than CURRENT games (see the Tiger Woods game for example. Flat textured ground for grass. The only thing smooth was the golf ball), and one of the horror games had LAG! I rewinded it and it was visible. The games that had good graphics weren't shown in motion long enough to tell. They didn't tell us ANY of the features of the console.

the xbox 360 is beat. The case is ugly and the specs look like garbage compared to to the cell processor of the PS3 and what the Nintendo Revolution is supposed to be. 360 only uses regular dvd drives while Nintendo and Sony's machines both use either blue ray or HD DVD, im not sure which console uses which. The original xbox was about power, this is the exact opposite. Releasing their console early was wrong since they did it at the wrong time; Sony's first release worked because they were on top of the newest tech. This is in the middle of new and old which is going to result in the system being the next dreamcast... :p

I don't see a need for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD's in a game console at all. Please name one reason you can think of why it's needed.

I think the X360's specs are fine.

Thier cpu's are not "true" G5's, hence the speed 3.2 GHz. Could you imagine your "$500" x360 is faster then the $3,000 dual G5 you bought 6 months ago? LOL

Thier "instruction set" is specific to it's needs, games, music, basic things like that (I assume). Could it run OS X? Possibly. Would it run it as well as a G5 in an iMac/PowerMac? Seriously doubt it.

I hope they up the hard drive before release to help move towards a "client load" type of system (Valve's steam, MMORPG's streaming content, etc).

Preload Half Life 3 before release then at 12:00AM of release day it unlocks to play.

That would be awesome!

This is incredibly obvious.

HD-DVD: 30 GB (new tri layer disks are 45 GB)
Blu-ray: 50 GB (tri layer disks will be 75 GB)
Normal DVD: 9.6 GB.

Huge difference. The XBox 360 can't fit a byte more data on the disk than the first XBox could, but now the games are in high definition so they will take far more space.

That's a gigantic problem.

The leaked shots showed a 40 GB HD.

It was mostly right, though some of the terminology was wrong (which is what threw me off and made me suspect a fake). They used the wrong words in some areas.
