which one? IOS5 was made/designed/optomized for devices with a dual core A5 or 256mb of ram. It likely would have to little ram.

Mine is the 3rd generation. So it's too old to support the IOS5?

Appreciate the info. Might need to upgrade. But my 3rd gen. is still perfectly good. Will I still be able to download movies/shows/musci from itunes?

it should. i have a 3rd gen and it's up and running fine.

an 8gb was a 2 gen repackaged with the new OS

Ah. Sure. But the conversation was if the 3rd generation runs iOS 5. Throwing in the 8GB comment is irrelevant unless their is some detail I'm misunderstanding about that link I gave regarding support for the 3rd gen.
