i could easily do this on os9...now i'm lost...help...

i'm trying to telnet (ssh?) to a website in osx to change some permissions...i can connect to it...but the problem is that it seems to be connecting with the username on my computer...

i use - ssh www.xyz.com

it asks for a password, which i enter, but it's not the right password on the website...my terminal window displays MY username...the window doesn't ask for a username...only the password...this isn't right...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

i would delete this if i could...but i found the answer...

When you use ssh it tries to log you in with the username of the user that invokes the ssh command. Unless your username on your mac matches the username on the machine you are trying to connect to, it won't work. What you need to do is either use the -l username flag or better yet do this:

ssh username@host

so, my username is phill and if i wanted to log into stevejobs.apple.com, i would do this

ssh phill@stevejobs.apple.com

or

ssh -l phill stevejobs.apple.com

also slogin would probably be better for you to use. just drop to terminal and type 'man slogin' to get the syntax.
