Apple is giving away free redemption codes for the excellent Jetpack Joyride (http://appshopper.com/games/jetpack-joyride) game via its App Store Facebook page. Simply head to Facebook.com/AppStore (https://www.facebook.com/AppStore) and follow the appropriate directions to receive a redemption code.

Apple rolled out revamped App Store pages (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/30/app-store-now-available-through-facebook/) on Facebook last year with searching and sharing tools, though this is the first time Apple has actually given away an App to Facebook users, according to sister-site TouchArcade (http://toucharcade.com/2011/10/26/9999-alarm-freebie-alert-jetpack-joyride-via-facebook-black-majiks/):
It's the first of a new promotion process courtesy of Apple, and I can't wait to see what else they end up giving away for free. Now, I've got no idea either how long this promotion is going to last, when it's going to rotate to something else, and how many promo codes there are to give away...

Seriously, we love Jetpack Joyride (http://toucharcade.com/2011/08/31/jetpack-joyride-review/) and there is absolutely no reason to not take advantage of this offer. Also, it seems you can even generate a code if you already own the game, and then give that code to someone else.Jetpack Joyride for iPhone is normally $0.99 (http://appshopper.com/games/jetpack-joyride) on the App Store.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up. I played it on an iPad once. It seemed like a good time killer. I'm downloading it on my iPhone now.

Not a FB user, so no free app for me....

Me either. When I get bummed about not getting the free app, I remind myself how great I feel after kicking the Facebook habit and deleting my account entirely. Going on two months Facebook free!

sounds like a pretty good deal (for Apple). they hoover up all your personal data in return for a 99c game you'll never play.

Is it possible for other people, companies, or developers to offer free app codes in the app store?

Seems a bit sleazy if Apple is doing it and nobody else can.

How's this work? I wrote "trick or treat" on their wall, and nothing happened. Does the code get emailed or sent vi Facebook message?

Yep, I'm among the non-FB disenfranchised.

But I'd rather keep my privacy (or what little there is left of it) than get a CHF1.00 game for 'free'.

No, I finally figured it out. You have to go to their wall from a desktop computer. It did not work for me on my iPhone either.

This is one of those rare times that I hate not being on Facebook. A 99 app is not what I would price my privacy at.

Can you leave a review after downloading the game with these codes, or is it the same as developer promo codes/gifted items where iTunes doesn't let you?

Did it fine when I accessed using a desktop - but as my computer with iTunes died, thank goodness for PC Free iOS 5, so thank goodness a Redeem code is in the fine print that does work on App Store accessed through iOS

Sort of cool, but Apple's forays into social media always strike me as a little strange. I wonder how this developer got the honor of being featured on the page.

And I did. None. Notice to all companies who require me to participate in Facebook to interact with them: We're not going to have a relationship.

Yes other developers can give away codes. As a matter of fact there's a thread around here for an app called tipSkip. Sorry I don't have the link but I'm sure you can find it :)

I set up a fake account a while back as some friends kept sending FB links to share photos. I have nothing in my account - just a fake name and the minimum bogus data required to set one up.

Comes in handy for freebies like this, occasionally. Never ever felt the slightest bit interested in FB for its own sake. I just don't see the attraction.

One way is the 50 promo codes developers get per version. There is probably another way to generate codes, but I have used the promo code method.

We have access to a free game because we think we're the center of the universe? In what way do I have control over what a tiny segment of the population makes available to me?

Let it go, it's just not worth it. You know how it is, everyone is ready to slam the US but would give their right testical to be able to have what we have. (Except for our mobile providers) :D

Ironically, you cannot do this on an iPhone, either with the FB app or the FB mobile site. This is true of many other contests, which use menus invisible to mobile users; but you'd think that an Apple App Store would have a workaround. Not 'dogfooding', I guess.

It worked for me on the iPad and because of your post I tried it on the iPhone where it worked as well. I don't know what you're doing wrong, but it certainly does work on the iPhone.

And all of you facebook rebels, they have 800 million users. I don't think they're losing sleep because a few paranoid geeks don't have profiles.

And for anyone who thinks there is such a thing as privacy: You're funny...

Privacy online is an illusion.
