View Full Version : I didn't know you could do this in iTunes

When you have the Store features turned on in iTunes, you always see a gray arrow icon to the right of the Artist and Album name, which takes you to the iTunes Store when clicked. If you hold down the Option key while clicking on these arrow icons, you're instead shown a list of the relevant items from within your own music Library rather than on the iTunes Store.

If you Option+Click the Song Name or Album arrow, the list will show you all the songs on that Album.

If you Option+Click on the the Artist Name arrow, the list displays all of that Artist's music.

This is pretty handy. Maybe I'm just pointing out an obvious feature that everyone else knows about, but, I just figured it out today.

Good spot! I'd certainly never noticed it before and will definitely be using it from now on...

If you type the following into Terminal you can reverse the function of the arrows, so a normal click will take you to your library and an option click will take you to the music store.

defaults write com.apple.iTunes invertStoreLinks -bool YES

These key combinations have existed since they store started. You can get a script to flip these over (so you option-click to get to the store).
If you want to see something truly new to iTunes in version 4.8 go here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=126029).

Oh wow, that's great! I'm going to give that a go.

I turned those off because I accidentally clicked on them sometimes. I will be turning them back on. Thanks!

I discovered this the other day, when my Mac decided that the Option key was permanently held down  (don't worry, I fixed it)

I never liked those arrows and would only temporarily enable them, just to browse iTMS.
Thanks to MontyZ and AppleMatt the arrows have reason to always be there.
I do still like the looks of iTunes more without the arrows though.

wow...thanks AppleMatt. I've been wanting iTunes to do this for the longest time, this is great.

I love the way no-one seems to have tried pressing the buttons while holding the option/apple keys down! this is one of the first things i do with any Apple App - there are usually nice hidden things to be found!

I have long wished for a way to be able to do this, so I'm really glad I found this thread :). I've reversed the behavior, as I never use those arrows to go to the iTMS, but often wish I could click on an album name to go to that album in my library.
