Given that Urban Terror was once a Quake 3 mod, I went looking for other Quake 3 mods to see if I could get them working with Lion.

This was actually easy to do given that OpenArena supports many Quake 3 mods.

1) Download and install OpenArena. Make sure to leave OpenArena in a folder.

http://openarena.ws/download.php

2) Download and place the .pk3 file linked to below in the "baseoa" folder that is located in the OpenArena game folder.

3)Download and place the folders for mods in the same folder as OpenArena.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/true-combat -> The best of the three in my opinion. There is one server online but with no active players, AFAIK. Working bots on most maps if start your own server.

http://www.ns-co.net/ -> Very nice game. More realism than Urban Terror but very similar gameplay. No servers online and bots don't seem to work.

http://www.rq3.com/ -> Also a fun game with working bots. Apparently, soon to be a standalone game. More action oriented and Quakesque than Urban Terror but also very similar.

4) Some mods fail to launch from the mod menu in OpenArena and launching from the mod menu causes issues related to settings.

But, it is easy to make mod launchers using Automator.

Just make an application in Automator using "Run Shell Script" to launch OpenArena with the proper args.

For example:

/Applications/(title of folder containing OpenArena - make sure folder title doesn't contain spaces)/OpenArena.app/Contents/MacOS/openarena.ub +set fs_game (title of mod folder - again, no spaces)

These games aren't the latest and greatest but the spec requirements are really low. Most even play well on my GMA 950 Macbook.
