Shuffle won't connect to iTunes

My computer (PC) recognizes the ipod as a drive, but nothing else... When I went through the intallation it asked me to restart the computer, after it restarted I thought it would finish the install, but nothing came up. I aslo opened iTunes while I had the shuffle plugged-in and it didn't recognize the shuffle. What is going on?

Try download & installing latest version of iTunes if you haven't yet.
Then try doing the same with the latest iPod software which includes iPod Shuffle software 1.1

Don't plug in the Shuffle until all of this is done.
