Turn imacs monitor off?

Is there any way to turn off the monitor of the imac or put it to sleep so i am still able to download something? Sometimes i want to download somethng over night and my computer is in my room, so i dont want to leave the monitor on while i sleep.
 
in system prefs, under energy settings you can set it so that the display goes to sleep after a certain amount of time
