Resolved, VolumeLogic replacement: Using Audio Hijack Pro

I have heard it is possible to use the free loudmax plugin in conjunction with Audio Hijack Pro to obtain the same results as Volume Logic did when running iTunes. Can anyone explain how to set that up? I have Audio hijack pro and the plugins, but what next? How do you install the plugins? and how do you get iTunes output to the speakers running through the plugins?
Sorry, I am just not able to wrap my head around this....
Any advice appreciated.

Basically you select iTunes in the Component list, then go to the Effects tab, click on the first box to add an effect, and choose the Multiband Compressor in the AudioUnit Effect -> Apple menu. Then click the "Hijack" button. Other effects can be added as you see fit, though one of the EQ effects or Excitifier VST Effect is probably the only other ones that would make much sense. If you download the preview and load it up, this will make more sense; it's pretty clear, I think, once you can see the interface."

Using AHP/w iTunes

1) Download Hijack Pro (free trial, license cost $32)

2) Select iTunes in the Component list on the left AHP panel.

3) Download the free LoudMax AU (not VST) plugin:

Drop the LoudMax.component (not mono) on your Mac here:
User/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

4) In Audio Hijack, click on upper left box that says "Click here to insert effect" and select 4FX Effect: 10-band EQ from the pop-up menu.
Important: there are two twist knobs on the 10-Band EQ, set the IN GAIN to 2PM.
Click Editor and set the EQ parameters with your mouse to approx. the values below. Some people prefer to just hit the by-pass on the EQ and let the LoudMax plug-in do all the work.
31Hz -8 db
63Hz -5 db
125Hz -2 db
500Hz -4 db
1KHz -6 db
2KHz -4 db
4Khz -2 db
8Khz 0 db
16Khz -3 db

6) Click on the next box on the right and select AudioUnit Effect -> Thomas Mundt -> LoudMax from the pop-up menu.

Set the Thresh slider to -16.0 and the Output slider to -1.0

Voila. Very similar to the effect of VolumeLogic. And it uses less CPU % by far!

AHP also has the advantage of being able to process sound from other players, web browsers, etc. The principal disadvantage is that AHP isn't a background app; it must be running to work.
