What is the cheepest firewire HD that you guys know of? I am willing to buy a HD and put it in an enclosure.

your best bet is getting the enclosure. it's a matter of how little or how much you want to spend. look around on ebay or newegg.com or some other computer site to get what you need. they are very easy to put together and significantly cheaper than buying an actual fw drive.

Make sure you get an internal mechanism with at least a 3 year warranty in writing. It is not worth saving $10 on an OEM "pull" with no warranty.

Try DealMac (http://dealmac.com/sections/storage.html) and Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com/). I found a great rebate for 250GB Hitachi IDE drive for $60 at compusa and put it in a $40 Macally enclosure (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817146608), and it's doing great. Only thing about that case that I didn't know is that there's no power button.
