I want to buy a large LCD monitor during the Thanksgiving sales here in the US.

Which is the preferred monitor brand for MBA owners? I am looking for a monitor in the 24"-30" range. Apple Cinema Display is out of my range.

Also should I try to buy the monitor in store or just buy it online to save myself the hassle of fighting the Black Friday crowds?

ETA: Is there a significant difference between LCD and LED monitors? Other than being lighter and thinner, do the LED monitors have any other advantage?

You need to specify what you'll be using the monitor for. High quality photography/graphics work? Basic web surfing, watching movies? Something in between? Gaming? It makes a big difference in what to recommend.

The Dell ultrasharp models get great reviews. I would call them prosumer monitors.

No I don't game at all. The monitor will be mostly for Windows/Mac, MS Office, Web Browsing and occasionally Netflix.

I just had a thought. Will a LCD or LED TV do well for this because then it could act as a second TV in the study room. Anybody use a TV as a monitor?

No I don't use a TV although that may not be a bad option either.

Lots of good choices in the 150 dollar range ( maybe way under that for black friday ) in the 24 inch 1920 x 1080 category.

Really most of the ones seem so similar that unless you want to pay some kind of premium price see what makes sense financially. I am looking at my current screen at home it is an acer 24 inch ( about 4 months old ) and seems decent. I think I paid 160 for it ( plus tax ) back then ... guessing black friday deals will push prices way under 150?
