It's getting to the point where I don't think I can update at all.
Can't update to 5.0.1 or 5.0 got error -54 on both updates and 3194 error too.
I've got an iPod touch 4th generation, jailbroken 4.3.5 using Redsn0w

First off, you'll only be able to update to 5.0.1. Second, 3194 error is when your hosts file has been changed and its trying to contact cydia rather than Apple. Go back into your hosts file and comment out (put a # or just delete it) any lines that have gs.apple.com. Save the file, restart you computer and it'll work.

if I had a Dollar every time a error 3194 thread came up I 'd be rich.. tons of videos on youtube or threads here that can walk you through the step.. sometimes you have to try a few different things..

How do you get to your hosts file... I do not currently have tinyumbrella installed.
 
need some more help bros!!!

DOESNT WORK UPDATING TO IOS 5.0.1

ERROR -54 backing up... then ERROR 3194
I had 3 hosts files deleted 2 because one didn't look like the one in the link above and the other was an UMBRELLA file 😕

HELP ME GUYS I WANT IOS 5 🙁
 
How did you edit your hosts file?

If you're on a Mac, i suggest doing it through Terminal. I've had problems trying to update it with the copy/edit/paste way.

Good luck. Think of this as a learning experience! 🙂 YOu'll feel better about it in the end knowing YOU fixed it.
