What's a better buy? I found a Samsung 256gb ssd for $400 or get the OWC 240gb ssd 3G for about $20 more. The 15gb of extra storage seems to be worth more to me

Where did you find the Samsung ssd? On ebay or something?

The OWC comes with a screw driver to open the air. It also comes with a phone number if you get stuck.

from my experience with the first SSDs that OWC released with the sand force chips in them reliability was horrible. I know these are not the same chipset and not the same form factor but it makes me very suspicious since I had one fail at one week and one fail at one month before I demanded my money back. By fail I mean the computer froze and on reboot the drive was no longer recognized to boot from and not detected by disc utility.

Yes I would like to know as well! Right now I have the 128gb SSD and may eventually upgrade. The only place I know to buy any replacement SSD's is from OWC.

I have installed over 30 Owc units of various sizing, to 2010 Refurbs for friends, never had a unit with a single problem:eek:

Forums users have found Samsung drives to be among the most compatible and reliable SSDs out there. There is no reason to pay more for a smaller capacity OWC drive.

Found one on CL from a Mac shop here in town. But the 3 Year warranty is way more tempting to me

The raw capacity is 256GB but some space is allocated for over-provisioning. Other drives have this too, but the OEMs have chosen to report the raw capacity instead of usable capacity.
