But I love these speculative threads.

And the fact that they are called "MacBooks" yet still have the black MacBook Air logo lasered into them.

To be honest I'm glad its not real, if that was ever released I dont know how long I could last before the bank balance took a hit!

Gosh, I hope this new 15" "Air" actually starts lower than $1799...

Personally, I don't like that color at all.

But a better battery time would not hurt. The battery in the 11" is extremely bad.

Nov 28, 2011, 05:59 PM
There would really be no need for a 13" Pro. In fact, for the most part, a 13" Pro isn't needed right now either. It is more affordable however.

Nov 28, 2011, 06:10 PM
Hahaha

NO

sorry but just not happening this price point maybe. Maybe thinner mbp but a MBA is just too thin to even have that graphics card in it also the upgrade from 11inch to 13inch is so little but is almost double performance increase

Nov 28, 2011, 06:11 PM
I don't mind the colour actually. The specs would be nice but only time will tell what really will be tossed into there. Still looking forward to the update, my wife is really annoying the hell out of me stealing my MBA when I'm not around.

It would be nice if they could fit 8GB of RAM into that 15 incher....

Maven1975
Nov 28, 2011, 06:26 PM
The MBA could have a dedicated GPU if clocked right. Also software switching will need to be spot on. Although, i would take a downclocked GPU vs a HD 3000/4000.

Who knows.. nVidia could have been cooking up something quietly for Apple.

Really cool black chrome color.

Excellent photoshop work! Did you do it?

I literally lol'd at the dedicated GPUs.

If only we were able to do that :p

amarcus
Nov 28, 2011, 07:27 PM
Remove the dedicated GPU's. Switch the quad core processors for dual cores and divide the battery life by half and then your looking at a more realistic upgrade...

Yes the image is very fake :) just did it for fun.

I just edited the macbook air page with 'inspect element' and darkened the edges of the macbooks a bit with PS.

I'm note quite sure if it's possible this way but:
- Increased battery life because of ivy bridge (and bigger battery in 15")
- Don't know if the quad core's are possible but i think they will remove the macbook pro (except maybe the 17") and they can't downgrade
- Not sure if the GT555 is possible but its small and has TDP around 35
- Maybe there will be a redesign, i like a darker color :)
- Prices won't go down because of the SSD's

Stop the press! Quad core with separate GPU would cause a massive heat problem in the current form factor. FAIL!

Personally I think Apple might consider merging the Air and Pro lines into just a 'Macbook' line within the next few years. This would allow for people to buy powerful and affordable Macs.

I would buy YOUR Mac's sir. Macs with these specs and prices would blow the competition away. Ah well, I'm happy with my (third) MacBook Air (2011).

Would rather have cool and quiet built in gpu rather than dedicated. If I want to play games will do so on powerful desktop thanks.

Most important feature requirement is a top quality none glossy screen.

I will not update my 2011 MBA until they give me the ability to go beyond 4 GB. Not all users will benefit, but my page outs sit at around 10 GB at the end of the day.

Eventually, I can see them dropping the "Pro" and "Air" names, and just having 11, 13, 15, and 17" MacBooks. 13" pro is not needed, and by dropping the 13" MacBook this summer, Apple has shown they aren't afraid to drop unnecessary products.

So I think 11 and 13 airs will stay the same, 13" pro will be discontinued, and 15" pro will lose optical drive, becoming something between an air and a pro. But all the names will be dropped, and they will just be called MacBooks.

If Apple calls the 15" a MBA, it will be better than a watered down MBP.

If Apple calls the 15" a MBA, it will be better than a watered down MBP.

If they made them all into Air like machines, there isn't much they could do to truly differentiate performance. Apple will still be restricted to the ultra low voltage cpus in such a form factor, and I doubt they'd be able to implement a discrete gpu. Given that they'll still be stuck to the ultra low voltage cpus for at least another year or two in the Air form factor, I'm not sure why they would completely remove their performance option. The Airs aren't terrible or anything, but they do choke on some stuff. The gpus are probably further behind than the rest of the machine.

I wonder how many Pros sell 13vs15vs17. If 13 is the best seller I dont think they will discontinue it...

However I would LOVE a matte black aluminum color. So damn sexy. My friend put a black skin over his MBA and it looks unreal.

I cannot wait until (if) apple releases a 15" MBA like notebook. It looks very sleek, but unsure if the mac would have a 512 flash because of the cost.

Sony managed to make some neat and thin machines (current gen) with full voltage CPUs, decent GPUs, and arguably, a more effective cooling system (in actual use).

13 - Z2, SA
15 - SE (basically, a big SA with a 1080p panel).

So no reason I don't see Apple pushing the limits again when Ivy Bridge launches (and Apple seems to get first dibs on new Intel CPU, anyways :)).

Seems early results are out on the Ivy Bridge architecture.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Benchmarks-Intel-Ivy-Bridge-CPU-sandy-bridge,14144.html

Not much of a jump in the CPU area compared with Sandy Bridge, and the Intel HD 4000 results are shady since they're compared to the HD 2000 rather than the current 3000 IGP. Looks like we'll need that dedicated NVidia GeForce 525M on the 13" if we want to see some real improvements in the graphics area.

Releasing the 15" MBA in Q1 before Ivy bridge is available just doesn't make sense. I don't know though, could apple have a deal with Intel to have it ready earlier for them?? All i know is that if it has 4gb of RAM and 512GB flash drive, i'm sold. I will literally get this the day it comes out.

Just a thought I wanted to ask other people. I saw an article an article several weeks ago (9to5mac i think) how the 15" MBA was originally going to be released in 2010 with the others but in the late stages of testing, the hinges did not properly support the screen's weight so they scrapped it. Does anyone else think it's kind of weird that it took them 2 years to fix something as simple (or maybe it isn't so simple) as a hinge?

I don't care if it's going to be called MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro as long as it's a 13" and has dedicated Nvidia and the new Retina Display but with the anti-glare option. If I have to migrate up to 15" to have all these, then be it :)

well here's some more interesting predictions and rumors fresh off the CES mill.

Macbook AIR looks to be coming in March so Apple can trump the imitating competition and leave then one step behind in technology.

I say bring it on Apple....I'm want the Ivy Bridge..etc....

I don't think they'll be out as soon as you think. The only Ivy Bridge CPUs that have been announced and would fit the MacBook Air (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_Bridge_(microarchitecture)) (e.g. 17W or less) are the 3667U (2.0 Ghz i7) and the 3427U (1.8Ghz i5) and they're not due out until May.

Also considering Apple likes the MacBook Pro to have exclusivity on new tech for a while it may be even later.

A 15" Air with a thin bezel might just revive the 15" market if it has a pro screen and decent price.

I know I'd be tempted...

If you are unrealistic do it properly. The Bezel needs to be thinner.

No way will a 15 be released, the original release of the Air was jobs pulling it from a manilla envelope so unless we have a massive envelope its not really working is it.....

neilpryde23
Jan 18, 2012, 12:35 PM
Well since there have been multiple claims of a thinner 15" macbook screen in production since like July, if it's not a 15" MBA, then it's a thinner/redesigned 15" MBP, which I'm fine with too and would actually prefer since it should be upgradable in terms of RAM. Either way, a thinner/more portable 15" macbook should be on its way :D
