iFixit has introduced (http://www.tuaw.com/2011/11/29/ifixit-offers-transparent-rear-panels-for-iphone-4s/) a transparent glass replacement back for the iPhone 4S. The glass, which retails for $29.95 (http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-4S-Transparent-Rear-Glass-Panel/IF115-004), completely replaces the rear glass on the iPhone -- making it useful for replacing a broken rear back or simply for a unique look.

Depending on the age of the iPhone 4, it may need iFixit's "liberation kit (http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-4-Liberation-Kit/IF182-019)" to remove the newer "pentalobe screws" from the iPhone.

The instructions for installing the rear glass are simple and straightforward (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-iPhone-4-Rear-Panel/3140/1) for the mechanically inclined. The transparent rear panel is available for the iPhone 4 (GSM) (http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-4-Transparent-Rear-Panel-GSM-ATT/IF182-021) and 4S (http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-4S-Transparent-Rear-Glass-Panel/IF115-004) from iFixit.

Cool, but wouldn't different colored backs be even cooler?
By the way, how are these manufactured? Did they just reverse-engineer the back glass? Or did they ask the manufacturing company to ship them some without the black coloring (don't know if that's even legal)?

Yeah but what would even be cooler is different colored fronts to accompany those backs

Actually, they should offer custom backs with a photo printed on back (inside reversed) like http://www.fractureme.com/ but even-out the black on top and bottom so it's straight across.

For fun, print a iPhone screen on back so it looks like you're holding it backwards.... just to freak people out like it's a double-sided iPhone.

And someone does not exactly understand the target market the clear back is aimed at.

Seeing threw backs or windows into the mechanical or electronic parts inside is not about looking pretty but cool looking to the tech geeks who just like to see that stuff.

Great safety upgrade:
It allows you to see when your battery is starting to swell and acid starts to bleed, before it catches on fire, so you can call 911 to send the Bomb Squad to remove the battery from your device.

The poster is a satire of such racist attitudes.

A lot of people who work long hours, including software programmers could look like Pakistanis after a long night working.
There are all kinds of people in this world, but should only be separated into Good or Bad people, not by race, color, appearance or anything else.
The Oklahoma Bomber didn't look 'Pakistani' at all, and he was a very bad person, wasn't he?

There are lots of people from the middle-east who are good people, same goes for orientals, africans, etc.

I would try to assume the poster was just being sarcastic, with no intentionally bad hidden intentions.

They make them for white iPhones as well. The spots that aren't see through in this one are black, but they make them so that they're white too. I ordered a couple backs from this site a few days ago. I'm excited to see how they turn out.

The "See something, say something" pic is a satirical take on a real campaign. It's just to show that while most NYers assume that the south Asian guy is probably just going to work, some "perpetually frightened racist old lady" will always see him as a terrorist.
This is the same old lady that will scream "BOMB!!!" on a rush hour train when she sees your 4S with the clear glass on it.

Now, If she saw that Pakistani guy using the "clear glass" 4S, she would absolutely shoot him.
And since the NYPD has deemed it OK to shoot an unarmed, innocent man 25 times....if you were scared. The old lady would get away with it.

Point taken. But my experience is that most NY'rs are in the "yeah..., whatever..." category, but there is still paranoia floating around for sure.

I've seen profiling in many forms, even before that term was being used, including white guys pulled over (because they were white) in a particular neighborhood while the cops accused them of being there to buy drugs but were really just trying to get around a traffic jam and cut through a neighborhood. And legally immigrated Latinos on Long Island who are afraid to drive because of fear the cops will pull them over, or take work in certain places because of attacks that have taken place.

But this stuff goes on all around the world, not just NY.

And... you're right... at a quick glance that battery could be misconstrued as some kind of device other than a phone. Combined with a bit of profiling, potential instant problem.

Installed it last night. I didn't think I'd like the look of the battery judging from the photo, but it's actually very cool looking with the neatly printed warning lettering and "Liion."
