What is up with Palm, it's like a bad German opera. They should hire the lesbian from Apple so someone is on hand to sing.

I remember a lot of people saying in the past that Apple should follow Palm's lead and split into separate hardware/software companies. "AppleOne" could create Macs running "AppleSource's" OS and "AppleSource" could license the OS to other companies also.

Funny how things end up. PalmOne and PalmSource are both in bad shape...loosing marketshare and mindshare. And PalmSource licensees are dropping like flies. Meanwhile, Apple's Mac marketshare is rising, the iPod is a smash hit phenomenon, OS X is moving forward in the innovation department like there's no tomorrow, and even Wall Street loves the company. I guess the Apple-split lovers don't have much to say right now.

I keep hearing over and over as the years go by that people need to emulate Microsoft in order to survive. Poppycock. Only MS can be MS. The fact that Apple's business plan is utterly different is the only reason Apple is still alive. The "closed ecosystem" of iPod/iTunes is still here. And still growing. The "proprietary" Mac is still here. And growing again.

If the "new" Palm really wants to succeed, it needs to merge the software and hardware companies together and come out with kick-ass products that are as cool and innovative as hell. The new LifeDrive is starting to head in that direction, but it's no iPod. I'd hate to see Palm/PalmSource really go under and let MS take over the PDA/smartphone market even more.

Is it me, or has Macbytes been kind of slow lately? Not as many updates.

I just hope a former-Apple person in the driver's seat will make them reconsider Mac support for the HotSync Manager and Palm Desktop.
