How to disable carrier IQ in 4.X and 3.X firmwares?

Does anybody know how to disable this? I found guides that all apply to newer devices only. My 3g on 3.1.3 doesn't have diagnostics on the "about" page.

Common sense. If there's no option, you can't turn it off...

It's only enabled in the dedicated Diagnostics Mode. It's not used under normal conditions.
