my son n i have tried many times to play at least minecraft classic on our macbook (he's got the white one i bought 2 yrs ago n i got the macbook air, ver 10.6.8) but to no avail. seems like it needs java. im still a relatively new mac user, so i dont know how to correctly download it (or the right one for minecraft). ive tried the java 1.6.0 (if that's how it should be coded), but still NG. pls help us - he's dying to play it. he's done it successfully with my sis' laptop which is fujitsu or sth cuz windows. i know apple has deprecated java, but it seems like other mac users could actually make it. please!!!!

I can start Minecraft fine on my 2007 iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and the latest Java version Apple provided via Software Update.

Maybe check your Java version via Applications / Utilities / Java Preferences:
