What font/script is your clock? my clock always has a zero before single digit hours. Also your font is more subtle. Very nice

Similar question to the above, what font is the month and day in?

Also, have some contribution, details on everything are in the December Desktop thread.

get fuzzy (http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/geeklets/system/display-time-in-words-fuzzy-clock/) ;)

Playing around with fuzzy, do you have any idea how to make Geektool display an hour ahead of the actual time, once a certain number of minutes has passed? Eg at 33 mins past Four, it can be programmed to say "About Twenty-Five to Five"?

Here is my current setup. The vertical month text is an image file controlled by NerdTool.

I'm thinking of having all the text angled, but that requires an abstract desktop and I like the look of the landscapes that I currently use.

how exactly do you tilt text? i was looking to do this before.

I've come up with two ideas:
1 - Build images with the information you wanted angled, and have a script to display those images.
2 - Use ImageMagik in a script to take text from a command and then create a picture with the text angled.

Both methods have their pros and cons. Each method involves two geeklets for one bit of text, unless you create one script that generates all the images for you at one time.

Started experimenting today. It's pretty cool but I'm having difficulty getting text to flow behind pictures properly. I need to find the right wallpaper. These will work for now. I also stumbled onto bowtie. pretty nifty as well.

Have a solution to the tilting text using ImageMagick. It's a pain in the ass, but definitely will look cool if you have the right background.

Here is a simple start in the main Geektool thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=13994487&postcount=3399

Geektool runs via Unix commands. Things like date and time are simple strings that just grab the information from the OS. As long as you don't download any strange scripts and tell Geektool to run them, you'll be fine. Plus, playing with it is tons of fun!

Here is my desktop. Still a work in progress, but I think I have most of what I want - at least until tomorrow anyway. :)

This is a combination of Geektool, Dateline, Simple Floating Clock, Yahoo Widgets and Bowtie. I have been tweaking it for the past two and a half months.

The dock is one I found on Deviant art and the menubar is part of a black OSX them which I applied on top of Aquadock's ML theme. I also installed black/dark folder/system icons but you can't see those because I don't have a window open.

My day job is as a graphic designer and I spend a lot of time on my Macs (the one with all this is a 1Ghz 17" PowerBook G4) so I want to "like" my desktop. Part of my time in this was tracking down PowerPC versions of Dateline and Bowtie. I'm using Location X (to switch network locations) and this Mac is mobile so the IPs will change. Consequently, the network info you see here is not static. It will change when I move locations.

Anyway, here it is…

Hope you like it. My geektool desktop. Im not a geek. This took me a lot longer than I had originally expected. The main trouble was a weekly weather forecast.

The has since been updated to include geek info for whats playing in itunes, including timeline for track playing.

apologies for the black spots, i had to blank off some details from calender.

Thanks to the web, code was sourced from multiple sites / sources. I tried and tested that many I cant recall what was from where, but nothing has been coded my me (i made a few modifications / amendments to suit my pref / system)

You can ask questions, but as im not a geek please expect basic replies. I work shifts so replies may be delayed / not immediate.

Here's the left screen from my two monitor setup… I'm using PHP scripting with my Mac running MAMP to composite images, and there's a ton of custom code behind this.

Underneath everything is EarthDesk, and I keep the sub-solar point in the center of my screen so the night-time sections are always to the left and right edges of the display.

I'm using data from Weather Underground using their free API to grab the weather from a station less than a half mile from my home. I fetch the data as an XML file, and use PHP's GD library to generate a 32-bit PNG file that's then displayed on the desktop. The weather icons come from Iconbest.com, and are free for non-commercial uses. I've got a lookup table that determines which of Weather Underground's weather codes correspond to which icons. Weather Underground also provides the age-of-moon info I use to determine which the appropriate moon phase image adjacent to the current time.

At the bottom of the screen are two more images showing the output of the solar panels on my roof. I use Enphase micro-inverters which provide ongoing data for each panel which is accessible through a series of APIs. The layout of the "Solar Panel Status" reflects the position of these panels on the various planes of the roof.

I was hoping to get some help. I couldn't get my ical events to show up in 10.8 with geektool and icalbuddy, so I downgraded back to 10.6. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work.

I've installed icalbuddy 1.8.6 and geektool 3. I had a geeklet that I saved from before I upgraded to 10.8. I simply can't get it to show up when it worked perfectly fine before the upgrade. What can I do to try and troubleshoot this?

Here is my geektool script: /usr/local/bin/icalBuddy -sd -nc --timeFormat "%I:%M%p" eventsToday+2

I'm hoping someone here can help me to get GeekTool working. I've seen lots of Geeklets on the GeekTool website. The instructions for all of them say Double click the geeklet and GeekTool will open it. When I double click the geeklet I get a message wanting to know which app I want to use. If I select GeekTool the GeekTool app gives me a message that it can not open files of that type.

How do I install the geeklets?

I got the circles from the Disk Capacity Meter Script posted by D13t:
http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/geeklets/system/disk-capacity-meter/
- I edited Disk0s2 --> Disk1s2 for my second drive (terminal "df -hl" to get your drive location)
- Etched look: I haven't modified the script or images at all, i think that the etched look a combination of the actual images and a dark background

Here is the script that I used for the % indicators:
df -hl | grep 'disk0s2' | awk '{print $5}'
Again, edit disk0s2 for the drive you want to represent
$1 = Disk location
$2 = Total disk size in GB
$3 = Used space in GB
$4 = Free space in GB
$5 = % Used

Hope that Helps

Hey,
I've been working on my geek tool set up for quite a while now, and there's one last thing I'm trying to sort out. I've got my overall CPU usage as a percentage, but I'd like it to show it just as an integer, without the decimal points after it.

So currently, it gives a result such as

12.34%

and I'm hoping to get a result that is

12%

The code I'm using for this at the moment is as follows:

top -l 2 | awk '/CPU usage/ && NR > 5 {print "",100-$7"%"}'

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

Anyway, here's my current GeekTool set up. The wallpaper rotates every hour between Spider-Man, the Avengers logo, Batman logo, SHIELD logo, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Captain America & Wolverine. Did you try changing "%p" to "%P" ? I thought I read that somewhere but I'm not sure. Worth a try though.

I change my Wallpaper/Geektool settings every month. > ,< So this is for May haha.

How did you customize apple logo on status bar?

----------

Thought of making a Google Now inspired theme. Very much a beginner at this. Next step is creating the Weather widget, including forecast and correct icons..
The wallpaper is from a set of 4 wallpapers, changing from morning/day/evening/night using this tool https://github.com/pipwerks/OS-X-Wallpaper-Changer

I liked it.
What is the fonts?

----------

Hey,
I've been working on my geek tool set up for quite a while now, and there's one last thing I'm trying to sort out. I've got my overall CPU usage as a percentage, but I'd like it to show it just as an integer, without the decimal points after it.

So currently, it gives a result such as

12.34%

and I'm hoping to get a result that is

12%

The code I'm using for this at the moment is as follows:

top -l 2 | awk '/CPU usage/ && NR > 5 {print "",100-$7"%"}'

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

Use this.
myCPU=`top -l 2 -F -R | awk '/CPU usage/ && NR>5 {printf "%d", $7+0}'`
myCPU=`expr 100 - $myCPU`
echo $myCPU'%'

I worked it out eventually…

Anyway, here's my current GeekTool set up. The wallpaper rotates every hour between Spider-Man, the Avengers logo, Batman logo, SHIELD logo, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Captain America & Wolverine. All of which have a similar layout, and don't impact the geeklets. Also happy to provide any scripts if people are curious. :)

That looks awesome!!!:) I love the Iron Man one, what scripts did use for this?

I updated my 'widget' to resembly the Google Now widget better, and tried to copy the Google Now inspired Clock Now widget from Android. Still working to get the weather icons for the next 2 days working.

Going to change my icons to the flat ones posted above, they look like my icons on my Galaxy Nexus :)
The font I use is Roboto. The weather is an edited script, need to clean it up. The icons come from Google Now.
The battery icons are also inspired by Clock Now, the backend is a different battery icon (with flames etc), I added a check for charging, so that the icon changes when it charges :)

Thinking to pack up everything in a zip when it's working completely, and share it with the world.

Is there a way to move all the widgets at once?

This doesn't work for me. This is the command I use:

That looks right. Did you change the "refresh every" to something other than zero? Mine still doesn't work perfectly -- sometimes I need to manually refresh the image, but it's better than before when it would show me the sun 24 hours a day.

As an aside, I'm noticing that Yahoo weather doesn't update the current conditions often enough and lags behind weather.com. Right now yahoo.com says my locale is 70 degrees and rainy, while weather.com says 78 and cloudy (weather.com is correct). I may end up scrapping the weather geeklet altogether.

You need to make sure the weather1.png file exists in the directory for it to work, it will not create the file by default. If you don't have one, just take any jpg and rename it to that...once the file is there it should start working... hope this helps!

Battery charge
CPU average over the last minute with temperature in the middle
Fan Speed
Memory Usage
Storage on my boot drive (Will add my other drive underneath when I get it back in)

I was thinking of adding some reminders, but I can't think of an uncluttered way to do it, and it doesn't help that my use of the reminders app is a bit all over the place.

I know this background has been used before by others, but I've added a bit to it - a post-it note for my Reminders, a digital picture frame for my weather radar image (it's a slideshow of radar images) and a corkboard for any files I have on my desktop.

As far as the corkboard goes, I've added thumbtacks to it and set them to "always on top" so that the tacks will actually be covering the files. The only problem is that now the tacks show up over top of any windows I have open as well - anyone know if there's a way around this?

I'm assuming when you say shell you mean the image. When I right click on it, my only options are move forward, move backward, bring to front, or send to back. None of them do anything while I have "keep on top" checked though. If I uncheck "keep on top", nothing I do puts the image over top of the file on the desktop.

You can call the png file in tmp anything you want. Also, remember that you want to have a yahoo weather address that looks like this:

It looks like Yahoo has completely redone their weather page. Their weather icons are actually pretty crappy looking now, I loved their previous ones. I wonder if there is a better source.

PS Should we be moving this to a new thread maybe? We're kind of cluttering up the Desktop thread.

There used to be a thread with Geektool scripts. Is this not the equivalent, kind of?

A better fix may be to use a different service. The weather channel has icons too. I used this script:

curl --silent "http://www.weather.com/weather/right-now/ZIPCODE" | grep -E -o 'http://s.imwx.com/v.20120328.084208//img/wxicon/120/.*png' | head -1 | xargs curl -o /tmp/weather.png

Taken from this posthttp://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=15540918&postcount=17

However, you need to make a slight adjustment to the image URL. To find the image url, just have a look at the page source.
