do these exist? this is one thing that might be a limitation for me with the ipad, I use a usb thumb drive for school, & need to be able to use & access it, are there any adapters that have a female usb end that would let me use my thumb drive with an ipad?

or would I have to use a double ended female usb adapter with the ipads, apple usb sync cable?

I would also like to be able to use a usb card reader to download photos from Sony memory sticks & sd cards.

There is lots of 5 in one card readers for the iPad on eBay etc.

Your iPad needs to be jailbroken to take advantage of most of the features though as you need to install iFile from Cydia.

Something that just got funded on kickstarter that would work:

CloudFTP (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/125911486/cloudftp-wirelessly-share-any-usb-storage-with-ipa?ref=live)
