plugging my guitar

Hi,

I'm having a problem trying to connect my guitar to my MacBook. I bought an "USB Audio (7.1 Channel)" looks like this one:

I connected my guitar to my Mac using the Mic line (Red Hole) and i did the necessary changes such as changing the input channel I turned on the Monitor, I got a Sound interference.
I searched on Garage band's Help, and I found out that I have to make sure the format match the guitar input but I don't know how to.
