What is wrong with these morons? I had F-16s flying over my house last week chasing the last one.

This one isn't as bad as the last one though. They were just a little ways off course. And the Bay Bridge is pretty damn far from DC anyway, always thought it was more than 30 miles.....maybe its just the time it takes to get there from DC is the problem. Nothing like a little weekend beach traffic...

If you are skirting the DC area and are on a VFR flight plan, you had better be both smart and aware. To avoid these problems, file an IFR flight plan and have the help and assistance of the ATC system.

I am for very long license suspensions for problems proven to be pilot error, and not "bad" vectors, although those can be the pilots fault as well. I have been given vectors in the DC area by approach, that were pointing me directly toward Prohibited Airspace. As I got closer, I was on the radio to the controllers to turn me, and would have cancelled my IFR clearance and made the turns myself if need be.

This guy entered the Balt/Wash ADIZ, not the Washington "No-Fly" zone.

There are probably 20-30 incursions into the ADIZ every day. I've even had trouble with controllers in this area with a properly filed IFR.

They need to ditch the ADIZ and maintain the No Fly Zone in DC.

Here is part of what a pilot needs to look at.

1. A look at the TFR's in US airspace today or soon

2. A close up look at some of the airspace and the requirements for the DC/BWI area.

Yes, and be prepared to deal with one particular a-hole at Washington approach.

Are they ever really there? Isn't it better if they aren't? Then they are screwing less up! :D

Just give me ATC, Fire, Police, and various Heath and Military, Send the rest packing.

We were told that unless we had booked a day off in advance, and "personal" or "sick" days would not be paid today.

BUT

I'm bolting in about an hour and a half.

Oh, and give me ATC, too, just send the a-hole (anyone who flies around here knows him) packing.

I almost always get a squak code change at Binks intersection, yesterday flying back to KINT from KPWM they started my descent just south of Binks, the controller was a jerk, gave me vectors for the descent from FL400 to FL370. Just as I was leveling at FL370 he comes up and asks me to expedite my decsent. I come back that I am leveling at 370, things are quite for a sec and he jumps on with a vector and further descent to FL300. His tone was pius and angry, could this be he?

Just to follow up for you pilots, there was a good article in today's post about this.

Finding Fences in the Sky
Recreational Pilots Rely on Invisible Lines to Keep Them Out of Restricted Airspace
By Sara Kehaulani Goo
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, May 28, 2005; Page E01

Shortly after takeoff from Frederick, Charles Mayer was cleared by air traffic control to enter Washington's restricted airspace in his Cessna 172. His global positioning map showed he was on course to cross the invisible line in minutes.

Then an air traffic controller came over Mayer's radio with some troubling news: A glitch had knocked the Cessna from the Federal Aviation Administration's radar screen. Mayer knew he couldn't fly into the restricted airspace if air traffic controllers were unable to track his progress.

So he immediately pulled back on the Cessna's yoke and turned right, diverting the aircraft. Adding to his troubles, he also was trying to steer clear of another airplane in the area.

"Get higher and get out of the way," Mayer remembers thinking.

The Cessna's transponder signal quickly returned to the radar screen and Mayer proceeded to fly over Washington.

The tense episode, which lasted less than 20 seconds, exemplifies the tightrope drama that local pilots and controllers experience on a daily basis to meet the strict rules governing the most closely watched part of sky in the country.

More than 1,700 pilots have wandered unauthorized into the area known as the Air Defense Identification Zone since 2003. On a navigational map, the 2,000-square-mile area looks like the outline of Mickey Mouse ears in the shape of three 60-mile-wide overlapping circles encompassing Washington's three major airports. From the air, pilots must rely on landmarks -- such as Interstate 70 near Sykesville, Md., and interactive global positioning software much like equipment on some cars -- to tell where the restricted air space begins and ends...

I miss the Post.

Its quite silly actually. There have been a number of screw ups, though. When I was working in the hangar a National Airport, we were sharing it with the Custom Agents who would be scrambled when ever someone crossed the line. I actually think some of the guys from Geek Fest DC took a pic or two of the Black Hawks taking off when I gave them the tour....

One incident was Jeb Bush in his jet from Florida coming up for a visit and they got the full escort before everyone knew who it was. Seems his pilot messed up somehow with the flight plan.

Next to the hangers picture, he ought to put a picture of a hangar. I knew a Navy Lt that got ranked last in his squadron, on the change of command invitations for his squadron (the go to admirals and sometimes diplomats) he put the address as Hanger XX instead of Hangar XX. The skipper was so embarrased he slammed the guys fitness report, made is career terminal.
