Hi everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a new Nikon lense for my D90 but with the issue of having no real idea what's good and what's not so good.

I've been using the kit lense since I got the camera and whilst it's great for street photography and the occasional family/friend happy snap, having strangely found myself in the world of fashion photography I'm no longer getting what I want out of my images.

If anyone could recommend a lense that's decently priced, produces sharper quality photo's, has a better shutter speed AND can handle low light (if such a lense exists) i'd be really very grateful.

Thank you!

Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.8
The first is not a bad choice, but for a D90 it's debatable. You're getting the equivalent of 36mm at the wide end. The third is a good choice, as it functions as a short portrait lens. All IMHO.

Revka, do you prefer zooms or primes? Do you care? If you don't care, the 3rd party manufacturers make some damned good lenses for the money. If you don't need an auto diaphragm, Samyang makes a very good manual focus 85/1.4 for a good price.

The Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.8 are all great, but for a nice walk around lens I use the Nikon 16-85mm VR.

My friends also like to use the Nikon 18-200mm on there D90 and D3100 cameras.

Hope this helps!

check out the Nikon 85mm AF f1.8 ($470usd) as well as the 50mm AF f1.8 ($120usd), focal length wise they might be useful for what you are doing? Anyway they are fast i.e. good for low light etc,. both will work well on the D90. Think about a flash too, Nikon Speed light ($300+usd), allows you to bounce the light etc,.

After renting the 24-70mm for my D90... its definitely on my list of lenses to get. It's very fast and sharp especially in low light.

What is your budget? Nikon makes some excellent lenses, but most of the ones mention are around $2000 USD. If you want sharp lenses for more bang for the buck, let me suggest the 35mm, 50mm and 85mm f/1.8 primes. You can also spend more to get the f/1.4 version.
