Video chat on iChat2 and iChat3?

This maybe a dumb question, but can a Panther user using iChatAV2 and Tiger user using iChatAV3 do a one-on-one video chat? Panther's iChat obviously does not support H.264, but is the iChat in Tiger 'backward' compatible to do chat with previous versions?

as far as i know it is backwards compatiable, you just cannot invite a a person using ichat in panther into a 3 or 4-way video chat.
