Hi, i am buying an LCD monitor soon.
I can't decide between a 20" apple, or the 24" dell (which is only £160 more for me).
If i get the apple then I will have to use it along side my powerbook, if I get the dell i don't think they'll even be space left on my desk to do that!
But my question is, is the external adapter on the Radeon 9600 (mobile) up to driving the 1920x1200 res.. has anyone got a 23" apple display or the dell and could advise?
Cheers,
-Matt

Yes i know it can do it, but i don't want to if it can't cope doing expose, for example, without chugging. I.e. Can it do it adequately?
Also, i just got a £20 discount voucher for apple edu store so the apple 20" is looking more tempting at £480.

If you have the 128mb version then you should have no problems, I have a 17" PowerBook and it has not problems with that resolution. I don't have any experience of the 64mb version though.

It's just the regular 64mb one.

It's just the regular 64mb one.
It should be fine. PB's video card support Core Image and doesn't care how much VRAM is free. The Support is everything.

I have an older 12" PB with 32MB VRAM. It can handle 1920x1200, but it does get chuggy when doing exposé.
I imagine that 64MB VRAM and a better GPU will work a lot better, but if you intend to use both screens at the same time, the VRAM will be halved, so you will be in the same situation as I am when I run a 23" Apple display with the PB lid closed.
