Is there any point of having my name engraved? I am about to buy a new mini, but i am not sure if i want my name engraved what are the cons, because i really dont see many pros.

also, for the mini, is it necessary to have a case for it, because its not like the regular one where it scratches.

Don't get anything engraved. It makes the resale value go....PLOP...down. Who wants a Mini with your name on it?...besides you.

If I ever buy a new iPod I'll pass mine down to my pre-teen daughter. So my name and phone being engraved will serve its purpose for her as it does me...protection from theft. There was a news story on CNN recently where a lady recovered her iBook and iPod from a pawn shop after they were stolen. She found the iPod on eBay, which advertised it with the engraving she ordered. Given it wasn't her name, it was a line from a song, but it still was effective.
