is the Gigabit Ethernet plug on the back of my rev.B iMac the fastest way to surf the web ?
Or an i just having a wireless distance issue ?

i had my wireless DSL router downstairs (35 feet away from my iMac) & loading pages was taking longer than a PC just 3 feet away

i brought the DSL box up here ,pluged it in ,switched off the airport
& now things are really moving

would getting the AirPort Extreme Base Station help my situation ?

thanks for the help you guys are really great

The current wireless standards should easily outdo internet speeds however as you get further away from the router, the speeds decrease. Getting an Express base station might increase your range but I'm not sure. The literature says it only works with other Apple base stations but other members have had success with other brands.

I'm guessing you've got a really poor range and you just need to extend it.

Ethernet has gone through many different changes over the years, speed wise it has gone:

megabits (128K) per second.

So even the older standards are faster than the fastest Broadband.

Gigabit Ethernet is really only for big corporate networks, 100 Base T is enough for most people.
