Synching apps between MBP, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S

When IOS5 first came out, one was able to update an app on any of those three devices, and the update would wirelessly transfer to the others.

I've found that this no longer happens, and I have to upgrade each device separately. Anyone have a fix for this? (And, yes, I do have the appropriate iTunes setting clicked for it.)
