Can I boot from my old OSX disk when I have the latest OS running?

So thanks to the folks here, I determined some of my performance issues. I ran the disk utility which reported drive corruption. It says I need to boot from disk and run disk repair. I was going to use the disks that came with my iMAC (Jan 2010).

Can I do that?
