Unable to connect to a locked wifi?

I just bought a macbook pro and it has trouble connecting to my wireless router. It can connect to an open wifi but not my locked one. I typed the password and everything. . . i restarted the macbook and the router but still nothing.

:/ i also tried putting $ before the password and that didn't work.
 
Does your router have an access control list ? If so you might add the MAC address of the new Mac to it.
