Here is a photo of my lenses. In order from left to right:

- 24mm F2.8
- 35mm F2D
- 50mm F1.4D
- 85mm F1.4D
- 135mm F2 DC

Just not a fan of bulky zooms, although sometimes primes can get a little annoying lol. :)

To only prime I have so far is the Canon 50 f/1.4. The full time manual focus combined with moving autofocus off the shutter to the back button is awesome and every lens I buy in the future will have FTM focus.

Right now I'm looking at the 300 f/4 IS and the 400 f/5.6.

I'm going to get rid of the 24 at some point for the 20mm instead.

Will be adding the fisheye and macro when I can afford it :) - Keeping my money back for a 2nd body, hoping it will be the D800 :D

Beautiful collection there! I have one prime, a Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and I love it. Can you suggest any ultra wide primes?

What's the cost of that kit?

I'm a Canon shooter but was thinking of getting an adapter to shoot Nikon primes for video. Right now I have:

Canon 35 f2
Canon 50 f/1.8
Rokinon 85 f/1.4

I only have two lenses and both are primes. Nikon 300mm f/4 and the 35mm f/1.8. Both are great pieces of glass. I need a wider lens at some point, though.

Depends on which of my 3 cameras I'm using. When I'm using my 7D I have some primes, some zooms. If I could only keep 2 lenses I'd be keeping one prime, one zoom: 35mm f/1.4 L and one zoom: 70-200mm f/4 L

If I'm using either of my rangefinders (Epson RD-1 and Leica M3) I have no choice but to only use primes!

Where am I???
Yup, I'm (basically) all primes.

EF 35 f/1.4L
Sigma 50 f/1.4
EF 85 f/1.2L mkII

Full disclosure: I do own the EF 17-40 f/4L, but it barely gets any use these days. It will soon be replaced by the 24 f/1.4L mkII, and I'm hoping to add a 135 f/2.0L this year, depending on how business goes.

I also shoot with some M42-mount primes; mainly a Fujinon EBC 135 f/3.5 or 200 f/4.5.

I think it cost me around the £2000 mark. (Approx $3000)

The most expensive ones (the 85 and 135) were bought in Hong Kong because its a tax free country :)

I usually buy second hand though. If it does the same job and is in good condition, then I don't see the need to spend the extra £££. :D

Yep, sold my Canon gear for a Leica, and it's all primes from there.

Nice lenses all of them. Specially the 85mm, that's a lens I really want to own.

But right now I think my next purchase is going to be a Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8. You can't beat the advantage of having zoom, specially in family shots.

My perfect combo would be:

- 17-55mm f/2.8
- 50mm f/1.4
- 105mm macro f/2.8

The last two I already own, and are amazing. Much better than my 18-55 kit lens:eek:. But, photography is SO expensive!

I don't know if I should invest in the lens or in a new camera. My D40x is still working, but I would hate buying an expensive lens to then find myself needing to buy a new camera because the current one broke.

Very nice collection, I have only a 35mm f1.8 prime to go with a kit zoom on my D90 but most of the lenses on my wish list seem to be primes.

I agree with your thinking on buying used too.

peepboon: NICE! They all match, I love it.

Im using a

-tokina 16-24 (Waiting for a good deal on 24L1 to switch it)
-Sigma 50
-Tamron 60 macro
-Sigma 85
-135L

Loving the primes!! I dont think I could ever "go back", but I am thinking about getting a 17-55 again for my backup for vacations and whatnot.

Got a mixture of primes and zoom, I'd like more primes but I occasionally prefer to travel lighter with range of focal lengths covered.

EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye
EF17-40mm f/4 L
EF24-105mm f/4 L
EF50mm f/1.4
EF70-200mm f/4 L
EF100mm f/2.8 Macro
EF300mm f/4 IS L
EX1.4

I love primes! I have the Nikkor 85mm 1.8D, the 50mm 1.4G, the 35mm 1.8G and recently the 20mm 2.8D. All but the 50mm one are second hand but in top shape. Then I have the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, which is formally a zoom, but with a narrow range so in practice I use it like a prime with a little bit of flexibility. And then I have the kit zooms, but hardly use them anymore. Good tele zooms are outside my budget.

I have a 28mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8, would love to get more though, can't beat a good prime!

I've got a 30mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 for my EF mount lenses, then a 28mm f/2.8 (redundant with the 30mm, but still works well for film), 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/4 Macro, and 135mm f/3.5 in FD mount with an adapter. I don't mind the bulk of zooms, but until I can get myself a nice f/1.8 zoom, I'll be sticking with primes.

Zooms
*17-40/4.0
*24-70/2.8
*70-200/2.8IS
(mainly used for kid/family-shots; when not enough time to change lens)

Primes
*50/1.8
*85/1.2
*100/2.8 Macro
*135/2.0
*300/4.0IS
*400/5.6
*500/4.0IS
*1.4xTC II
Prime use for the primes for shots with planning or loooong reach is needed; nature and airshow)

Still would like to add a wide-angle-prime and a TS; but after marriage the required approval workflow takes more time
But need to be fair: the 500 got approval
