Desktop image keeps reverting to blue when programs/folders are clicked

Hi,

This afternoon I was browsing on a website and it wouldn't let me view some important information because I didn't have the plug-in. After downloading the plug-in I noticed that my desktop image on MacBook pro would randomly turn blue. I've re-set it over 15 times, but when I open up programs/click on anything it reverts back to blue..

When I go into system preferences and click on 'desktop and screensaver' it shows my desktop image in the small box as the photo I’ve selected, however the screen is still blue. 😕

Does anyone know how to fix this? This has never happened before, and it's starting to become rather irritating.
