I recently stumbled upon this tip for streaming mp3s on one's website:

Create a plaintext file called ( for example) theplaylist.m3u

making each entry a single line, type in the location and name of each mp3 file, and the order in which you want them played - for example:

http://www.anetstation.com/MP3/the_name_of_the_song01.mp3
http://www.anetstation.com/MP3/the_name_of_the_song02.mp3

Save the .m3u file, upload it to your site, and whatever button you use to let listeners start listening, link it to this file.

I tried it and it worked very well, but when I selected the stream in itunes and did "Get info", I found the direct URL of the mp3 on my server. The whole reason I want to STREAM the mp3 from my site is to make it fairly difficult for someone to download the mp3. Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Ethan

I've made a ton of these posts all over the net. I was working on a DJ site and I needed a media that would stream to both PC and Apple users. Unfortuanlty, it really is a mess. The best way really is to stream them via Flash. But that solution wouldn't work for my needs as I had hundreds of tracks and mixes that needed to be streamed. Good luck in your findings :) I ended up using active x, which isn't supported by Apple. I had no other solution (budget reasons mostly).
