The new iMac is $1,199.00 with a student discount from apple .( 17" base model combo drive 512MB ) my eMac comes with a super drive - 768MB ram . Superdive . Mac OSX Tiger . I Originally bought it for $1356 a year ago from the local apple store . i still got the original reciept and box.. i can go as low as $900 but that's pusing it .. How much are you aiming for ?

edwardk9
Jun 9, 2005, 12:55 AM
The new emacs are 1.42Ghz with a better GPU and come new 999.00 w/ superdrive plus twice as much hard drive space and that is not even the student discount.

If I were in the market for a used emac I probably would pay about 700-750 anything more and I might as well save the remaining 150 for a brand new one.

can get a brand new imac right b4 they updated them from macmall.com now for only $999, you are way overpriced. i could order an emac and ram and still be @ like only $1075 or so BRAND NEW.

But you will also pay taxes ...

$750 or 700 is way too cheap for a year of use of a brand new machine.. i could get a better deal at eBay.. but i though i'd try here 1st .

Have fun on Ebay.

Can't expect someone to pay $1000 when they can get a faster spec machine for that much...or a G5 iMac.

and NO you won't pay taxes if you order online from macmall.com @least i don't have to pay taxes to them. that's why i order from them over apple, bc apple charges taxes and macmall and macconnection do not. oh yeah that was a good link to post, the item only sold for $630, you're KIDDING yourself about getting anywhere near even 800 i would say. that's pushing the hell out of it considering you can order a new one now for 799, you're gonna have to find some mentally retarded person with alot of money to sell your stuff too. that would be your only bet haha

Hey man,

Not to be negative, but mac minis are way more compact and have alot more demand from the average consumer. The eMac is an educational focused value computer. You shouldn't have bought a education value targeted mac if you planned on getting a good resale value. If it was a powerbook or powermac or an ipod then I would expect a good resale value, don't be self centered, look at it from the buyers view. Why would anyone want something that is obselete? The eMac is a nice machine for basic web browsing and other things college students do. Maybe you should just keep it if you can't get what you'd like for it.

Ask yourself this, "Do I need the money from this?" If yes, then sell it for whatever you can get, otherwise keep it as an extra computer. I take it you want a new computer and you were planning on getting a enough money from this to either get a decked out mac mini or saving a few hundred bucks to buy a iMac G5?

Actually no.. but i need to get rid of it since i got myself a new Powermac and i already have a powerbook . besides i don't have space for it .

Well I've seen eMacs get sold for more than what i've asked for.. but buyrs here are not into eMacs i should say.. i would look somewere else ..

But those won't sell, just watch. There's no possible way they will go for those prices, unless someone just has money to burn and they don't do any research on what they're buying.

G-Funk, if you don't like what is being suggested or offered - why not take and go on eBay and see if you can get more? You might get lucky.

A year ago I did buy from a user here the almost identical eMac you are offering for $800 (theirs had the 160gb HDD). Given the recent updates, $600 seems fair.

Then it might make sense for you to try posting it in another forum other than macrumors or try ebay instead of bumping your thread with links to what others are trying to get.

Here is a link to eBay completed recent eMac listings (http://search-completed.ebay.com:80/1-25GHz-emac_W0QQa12ZQ2d24QQa13ZQ2d24QQa26444ZQ2d24QQalistZa26444Q2ca13Q2ca12Q2ca3801QQcatrefZC6QQcatrefZC6Q QcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfisZ2QQfposZ78230QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftr tZ1QQftrvZ1QQgcsZ1506QQpf_queryZ1Q2e25GHzQ20emacQQpfidZ1812QQpfmodeZ1QQsacatZQ2d1QQsacatZQ2d1QQsadis Z200QQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsatitleZ1Q2e25GHzQ20emacQQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZsoQQsojsZ1). That's a god way to gauge the value of your machine.

APPLE EMAC G4 1.25GHZ 256MB 80GB SD(SUPER DRIVE) 17"<--that model went for $406. You have and extra 512MB RAM in there, worth about $35. Tiger $75 on eBay , and iLife05 <--$45 on eBay. That's around $550. $700-$750 seems more than generous.

You'll be hard pressed to get that on eBay since so many of comparable machines are getting less.

It's hard to accept, but the eMac machine line is just not that popular with consumers anymore. The mac mini offers the same thing, and people can put a nice flat panel with it.

17" LCDs (more screen space than a 17" CRT) run $200-300 for some pretty nice monitors. The brands are no-name, but there are only a few companies who actually make LCD panels, so you are going to get the same quality from a no-name as a brand name supplier.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=1056%3A9096&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=2333%3A14219&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=300&SubCategory=20&Submit=Property

You can get a 15", which will get you close to the screen space of a 17" CRT, for under $200 easily. For $500 you can get a 20" widescreen Dell LCD, if you wait for a decent sale or coupon code.

Hell, I got a 19" Dell Ultrasharp w/ USB hub, DVI, the works, for $275 shipped to my door. While it may not be as nice as the 20" Widecreen Apple iMac's screen, iit is certainly nicer (I can attest firsthand) than the 17" model's screen. It's also detachable so I can use it with other machines. Mac mini + Dell Ultrasharp < $800. I think that's the way to go for a lot of beginers.
