It's impossible, isn't it?

What's a good free alternative video editing program on the Mac? Everything I found online seems to be out of date.

If you are still looking for some cropping tool, and basic editing (trimming and such), take a look at MPEG Streamclip.

No.... iMovie editing displays in either 16:9 or 4:3, but you can crop or add matting (select "allow black"), then export to QuickTime and click "Options, Size..." and make any dimension you want.

Make sure you select "preserve aspect ratio" or "crop" when defining the size during export.
