I want to move data from my NTFS pc to my MBA through the TBD and some external drive (haven't bought it yet). I realize that if I want to keep the backup HFS+ then the transfer needs to be initiated from the MBA side, i.e. I can't hook up the external drive to the PC because it doesn't write to HFS.

Is the fastest way connecting them both through the router and then to the TBD to a FW800 external? I suppose its debatable if its worth the extra cost for FW just for the one time transfer vs usb.

Seagate's TB dock has me tempted to switch away from WD, but the stories of their drives cooking in their enclosures (2010 3tb free agent) has me worried.
