Migration assistant works well,

However...if you have an extra 50 bucks, a really cool cable from Belkin (with the software installed in the USB cable for both PC and Mac). I purchased it because my folks never backed up their older PC...folders and files everywhere, etc.

I've used it now a half dozen times on Leopard, SL and Lion. Works very well and it's intuitive...easy as can be.

I believe the cable is actually called "PC to Mac" conversion cable. Again...no drivers, no need for an internet connection...USB to USB. Simple solution. If you are Mac savvy and have back ups...Migration Assistant is free and you've already got the tools in front of ya!
