Desktop items showing only in finder; not on desktop

Items placed on my desktop are suddenly only showing in the finder and no longer showing up on my desktop. How do I fix this?

Have you checked the Finder preferences to make sure all the boxes are still ticked? 🙂

If that doesn't sort the problem, you could try relaunching the Finder through 'Force Quit' (under the Apple Menu) and seeing if that does the trick.

It was unchecked in Finder preferences, but after checking it, it would immediately uncheck itself. So, I then relaunched the finder and it seems fine now. I just realized that it was showing up as a folder in the finder instead of a desdtop icon. I'm not sure how that happened, but it's fine now. -thanks
