So I bought my cousin an iPod mini 2n gen and when she was loading the iPod software it said something along the lines of if the computer asks to restart the computer say no and I think she restarted it anyway. Now when she trys to open iTunes on her user name it won't open and it will say that the iTunesMusicLibrary.itl is locked up or doesn't have the permission to open it. She had iTunes prior to the iPod software installation but ever since she put in the disc to load up the iPod software, iTunes just won't open.... BTW she is running Windows XP (yeah.... I know)

So basically what the problem is:
  • Loaded iPod software from iPod mini box
  • Restarted the computer when it told me otherwise
  • iTunes won't open now (although it did prior to installation)
  • Says Music Library is locked or I don't have permission to access it
  • Other users on the computer can open iTunes
  • She's running Windows XP

If she were running OS X, I'd suggest try repairing permissions through the Disk Utility app. in the utilities folder. 😱

Thanks dotdotdot 🙂

Man, I had the exact same problem. Here's what you can try.

go to:
My Documents
My Music

Right click iTunes and select Properties. If the "Read Only" box is checked, left click it to uncheck it. Then it will ask to apply this to all files. Say yes.

That's how i fixed that. If you still can't get in, try converting all iTunes files from Read Only to normal. Normal files don;t have any of those boxes checked. I hope this helps.
