Streaming event online live

Hi guys,

Hopefully I got the right sub-forum for this question...

We've had the great idea of streaming an event we're hosting live online so that those who can't make it can watch (and listen if possible!).

Ideally we'd just point a macbook pro/air's webcam in the right direction and let it run for a few hours. More events are as-and-when they happen, so if there's anyone actually watching we'd only be repeating the live streams every now and again.

Would ustream or livestream be the right type of thing to use? We'd only be looking at the freebie options, but if there's something better/easier we'd be thankful!

We use Ustream for events. A bunch of XL1 ran through a switcher into an MBP. Never had an issue with it so far. It is not top quality, but for us it is more important to be able to stream our program.

However, we never tried it with HD.

Ustream also records your show, so your clients can watch it later.

Cool, thank you very much. I've also found http://bambuser.com/ which seems to have some great facebook integration - has anyone tried it?

How does ustream hold up with audio? Is it any good?

Check out Boinx TV, it allows you to add graphics, scores, twitter feeds and loads more. It's not a replacement for ustream, livestream etc, but it's something that you run on the mac "between" the capture and output(ustream etc).
It also allows you to record a copy of the stream "raw" as opposed to the output on ustream, which means that the quality is much better.

As long as you don't expect audiophile quality, it is fine.
We normally run audio via the house mixer of the venue. There haven't been any complaints so far. Keep the "garbage in, garbage out" mantra in mind.
