Messages won't send from @mac.com emails?

I'm currently running on 10.7.3, but as Messages is a new 10.8 app I figured here would be the place to post.

I was wondering why I keep getting this error message upon trying to receive messages from my "@mac.com" email address (signed up with my iCloud, btw), but don't when I use my regular "@gmail.com" address.

username@mac.com is working for me. This is also my iCloud username since I migrated from MobileMe. It worked first try after I installed Message.

Hmm, weird, are you running on ML or regular Lion?

The problem that I'm having, is that it clearly shows my Apple ID under the preferences, but the email where I receive these messages is my @gmail.com address because that was the only way to work the app.

I am on Lion 10.7.3.

I am getting the same error as the OP, but with a @me.com address. It is my Apple ID and Primary Email address for the ID.
