How to shutdown the white apple of the powerbook?

😕 there is any chance to shut down the light of the apple behind the screen of the powerbook?
I use os tiger and I really hope in a command to turn off the brand...

Sorry, don't think so. I was told once that it's directly connected to the screen so without shutting off the screen, you can't shut off the logo. This might be wrong though, I've got no idea. 🙁
 
Try opening the back LCD and covering the underside with black electrician tape. The light comes from the backlight of the LCD.

already covered the apple but I hope in the 'command line' to shutdown the light cuz in the dark it's still visible.

Bear in mind that this 'solution' would void your warranty and you'd still have a black Apple showing. Covering it from the outside is probably safer but uglier. Why bother? You won't usually see it anyhow and it's not bright enough to disturb others

and exactly why do you want to hide it? The light from the screen itself will still be nice and bright anyway so it isn't like you can hide or anything...
 
Press and hold the lower brightness button until it shuts off. Of course then you won't be able to see your screen (unless you hook it up to the monitor.)

The light that lights up the Apple is the same backlight that lights up your LCD.

I'm reading that the light of the apple comes fr the pixels of the screen, so I cannot shutdown the light anyhow.
I'd like to hide the apple cuz I don't want to show the brand, that works fine, though.

It sounds like you're ashamed of using a Mac or something, lol...
 
Even if you shut off the light, somehow, it'd be impossible to remove the branding -- the apple would still be there, albeit unlit. People would still know it was a Mac.

Why do you want to hide the branding, anyway?

I've taken apart the PB lcd and it indeed the brightness of the apple is dependant on the brightness of your screen.

The brighter your screen is set, the brighter the apple will be.

Are you ashamed of using an Apple or something?
I'm so proud of my Powerbook 😛

I'm so proud to be a Mac user! I purposefully try to get people to ask me about it, so I can tell them about everything that they are missing. I love watching their reactions.

"What?!?!?!? You mean that you don't use virus protection, and your computer is still usable????"

"It NEVER crashes?!?!? What, do you never do anything with it or something???"

I can think of lots of reasons to want to hide the logo. For example, onstage for a performance.

Maybe you could get some metallic spray paint. Not sure if you could exactly match the back of the computer, but you could come close. Or maybe just paint a black square over it if you don't want the apple shape.

yeah there could be many reasons to hide a brand, even a good brand.
so I have hide the apple with a black tape and then a fluorescent tape and I like this.

Manzana::::: pretty cool the bsd devil onto the light!

So buy a cheap, nameless/logoless laptop as a prop.

If you're showing something off (like a powerpoint, or a movie), so what if people know you have a powerbook (or a Dell, or a Compaq for that matter).

I'm talking about a performance where you're actually USING the computer, for example, as a synthesizer. The point is the performance, not what computer is being used, and this could be a distraction.

This is one thing I don't like about the Apple photo books. Why does there need to be a huge Apple logo in the book? The point is to create a keepsake, not an ad for Apple. Not everyone wants to provide free advertising for the products they use.
