to 104.7gb instead of 107gb. Im using path finder to get info on the folders on Macintosh HD. is that normal? i know its only 2.3gb but still i like to have as much space as possible.

Thanks.

yes that is normal. Take a look at disk utility click on your HD in the program then look at the used space.

it is the exact same thing with an empty HD, look at your capactiy in the program

Are you including (or does Pathfinder include) invisible folders/files?

/bin
/opt
/sbin
/usr
/private
/dev
/cores

And on and on..

Also Spotlight metadata. For a more accurate reading, from the Terminal use:
Code:
sudo du -d 1 -c -h /

Biggest Use of Data - File Vault ???

EDIT: Wait... is that right??? File Vault does keep a copy of your files doesn't it? I don't remember now...???

I was under the impression that FileVault simply encrytpted on the fly, I don't beleive it copies your data.

I remember someone saying something about something like that copying your data... like it makes a backup or something.
