I have a mid 2010 Macbook and I was wanting to upgrade it to 8gb of ram. Has anyone done this? Apple says that it can only support 4gb, but it has the same motherboard as a Macbook pro which can support 8gb.

Go to Crucial's Website and select your exact model of system. It will show you the maximum amount of memory that is supported, even if it's more than Apple's officially published information.
And I somehow doubt your MacBook has the same system board as a MacBook Pro. For one thing, the MacBook doesn't have Firewire, the Pro does. And I think the same is true about an SD card slot.

By entering your serial number here to find specs for your model.
(Be aware that some models can use more RAM than Apple shows. Check EveryMac to verify actual usable RAM.)
