Comment: Keeping with my Dylan theme for song recs, I must say, this is another great song...arguably one of Dylan's greatest. I didn't see it recommended in here yet, and I think it deserves to be :)

I wouldn't call it his best personally, but definitely most well known. Still to this day it is proclaimed as one of the most important songs ever :).

Hehe, that's why I added in the arguably :) I don't even think it is his best myself, but I know many people who do.

And he's on tour in my hometown not 5 minutes away from where I used to live...and here I am in London...missing it. :( Someday...

I'm not usually put off by songs that are huge hits; if it's a good song, it's a good song. Period. This song is no different. Yeah, it was huge, yes Dylan has a ton of other great songs, but this is just an amazing song and definitely one of his best. It gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Well, until I get that image in my head of the Rolling Stones doing a cover version of this song (and a VIDEO even -- have they no shame?).

i went to this summer's tour Thursday night, it stopped in Camden, NJ. woot. Fun time, but it was so diffferent now that he isn't playing guitar...It was my first bob dylan experience (im 15 and only got into him last year) and I considered it a historical event. We don't know how much longer he'll be around :(

I wish he could live forever. Not knowing how long he'll be around and having him be such an important artist to me (though I'm in the same boat as you kinda...I'm only 19 and just got into him last year) is exactly why I would've loved to see him when he plays in my hometown this summer :( It definitely is a historical event...and it is very good to have gotten to see him, so congrats! :)

I didn't know he's not playing guitar though. What does he do? Just sing?

Well supposedly he hurt his hand and can't play guitar (we think he is just too weak or w/e). He now plays the keyboard / sings and then comes out to play harmonica and do a little jig. hahah it sounds funny but its kinda sad because you can't even hear the keyboard. It's a shame because he changed up a lot of the songs to fit his aging better. He can no longer sing really long notes and changed the emphasis on phrases so he can make it through.

It seems bad but I really enjoyed the concert. If you are very into Dylan, just seeing him is fabulous, let alone still playing

I've listened to a few songs from Bob Dylan because Steve Jobs and many others are praising him.

Maybe it's because I'm of a newer generation, but I'm just not impressed. He has good lyrics but not good sound. IMHO.

How do you mean not good sound? Is it his voice, his guitar playing or the harmonica stuff he does?

A lot of people feel that way about him...they love the lyrics, but dislike the Dylan style...which is why they wind up getting into covers of his work instead of the originals of it.

Before last year, I used to really dislike his music. I couldn't stand his voice nor the harmonica playing that he felt the need to interject into a lot of the songs. However, now I've gotten used to his voice (especially since it can convey emotions that covers miss sometimes) and the harmonica playing I just try not to pay attention to.

Great start to a great album that also had a great finish ("Desolation Row"). I prefer The Freewheelin', but I can definately appreciate this album, and this song...

Bob Dylan is awesome. I came late in becoming a fan, but his songs are timeless and very catchy.
