reduce size of partitions in finder window

when browsing in finder with 'columns' selected, there seems to be a big gap between the folder / file name and the next dividing partition. its a bit annoying flipping between folder / files using your directional keys on the keyboard.

How can i make this default so that theres less space between folder name and partition - bit annoying having to re size the finder window.
