View Full Version : Do apps in memory use battery power when the lid is closed?

What I mean is...

I often have Xcode and Eclipse open as I'm working on multiple projects simultaneously, along with Safari for research. Each of them use anywhere from 100-350 MB of RAM, roughly. CPU usage remains at 0-1 if I'm not actively working in them.

Is there any benefit to closing the apps before I close my lid? I'd like to just keep everything open, as I love the quickness of just freely opening and closing my computer and instantly everything is there where I left it. But on the other hand, I would also like to get the most out of my stand-by battery life.

Anyone have any thoughts or knowledge on this?

It does not matter how much RAM is used by what application, it will not affect battery life during sleep, if more RAM is used than if less RAM were used.

It's not going to mean the difference between being able to plug your computer in or having it shut down due to zero charge, if that's what you're asking.
