In a couple of days my connection's going to jump from 1mb to 8mb.
I'd like to get an idea of just how fast it is now before the new connection. Can anybody tell me how I can do this? 🙂

There are a number of internet speed tests available online. If you search Google for "speed test" you can get a number of results. This is one, for example.

I personally like this one, it allows you to submit your results so that other UK consumers know which services are the best value.

Man 8mbit! Ntl upgraded me from 750k to 2mbit and the difference is unreal. I really dont think I need any faster than that (unless of course they increase upload speed so upload:download ratio isnt as bad as it is now!)

Thanks! 😀

Turns out that my existing connection is running at 924kbps and the upload is 218kbps.

I ran the download speed test and it said that i was only running 80.9% of the normal comcast download speed and that I may need help. Does anyone have any idea as to what I should do to get it up to 100%

Glad to hear I suggested a good wite wdlove. I'm actually not a member yet, you can still do the tests but the results with the "proof" link only last 45 days. Not bad!

Sorry for double post, just seems better to separate posts.

Theman,

Are you on wireless? If I switch to wireless I get about 90% of RR's average as well, so 80.9% is good. Try it again tonight or tomorrow as Comcast might just be a little slower or have more people on right now. Testmy.net could also be a little slow. It's nothing to be worried about, as 90% is good anyway. Do you have a router? If so what type. My test was through a Linksys WRT54G. If I remove that, I get about 130% of my rr.com's average 😱. I actually just switched to the 6mbs RR from the premium 8mbps which is like double the monthly $, and they both test out to ALMOST the same speed, which kind of annoys me...haha
